Well, Chris, first of all, you have succeeded in waking up the lsit.  Wow! what a week we've had.

Second, in addition to the books I referenced ealier, there are some wonderful web sites with a ton of information on killies.  One of my favorites is the Greater Cincinnati Killifish Association's (GCKA) site at 

There you'll find an article by Roger Langton called _Keeping Populations Pure_  (http://www.intellweb.com/gcka/langton1.htm).  And _Why Are Names and Location Codes Important?_ by Donna Recktenwalt (http://www.intellweb.com/gcka/lnames.html).  These two  articles will help you understand why killie nuts become fanatic about keeping species separate.  It's easy to see how those of us who have joined the hobby in recent history tend to forget the "Dark Ages" when killies were next to impossible to find and information on keeping and breeding them was restricted to a few obscure and often inaccurate references in general literature and a handful of written letters exchanged by truly dedicated hobbyists.

Modern transportation, communications and the tireless work of dedicated hobbyists accross the world have made Killies relatively easy to come by these days. But loss of habitat and political termoil threaten the status quo.  We may soon find that fish we once thought of as common and standards in the industry become difficult or impossible to find or collect. That's why good husbandry practices are required.
