Standing waves

I noticed a remarkable phenomenon today. Not directly related to killies, but 
something I noticed while working with killies. I hatch the smaller South 
American annuals in shallow white plastic trays that are about 7 x 9 inches 
by 1-1/2 inch deep. I like them because I can see the eggs and fry easily 
against the white bottom. Anyway, I was tapping the side of one of these 
today to see if I could detect a fish moving, when some standing waves 
started in the water as I tapped regularly. The peat fibers aligned with 
those standing waves and I had a perfect sine wave silhouette of peat fibers 
on the bottom separating the peat from clear water. Just a pleasant diversion 
from the workaday killifish stuff.
