RE: Lava Rock

Hi Kean,

Lava rock is very light and porous, some of it might even float when it hits
the water. You most likely have the right stuff. I buy mine at Home Depot in
the plant section. It is inert but I usually boil it anyway.

In the corner filter you would use it to replace the carbon or most of the
carbon. You would still use the floss if you use it now. I set up my corner
filters as follows when I use carbon otherwise it is just floss over lava
rock:

	    ||| |
	____||| |___
	|___________|
	|___________| <---Floss
	|___________| <---Carbon
	|___________| <---Floss
	|		|
	|		| <---Lava Rock
	|___________|
	|___________|

Peace,

~RJ~

Subject: Lava Rock

I just bought a big bag of red volcanic rock from
Lowes. I just want to make sure this is the same as
the lava rock people are using. I plan to put some
into my frys tanks and may be use it to replace the
floss in the corner filters.

I hope it's inert and won't change the water
parameters.
