Re: Killies and cichlids
I have had mixed success with two different setups. I
had set up 6 small Crenicara filamentosa with
Chromaphyosemion bitaeniatus in a fifty gallon
aquarium. From that set up I ended up with 2 pairs of
filamentosa, and although they laid eggs, I never was
able to raise any, but I did establish a colony of
bitaeniatum. The bitaeniatum were too adept at
picking off the small filamentosa, and the filamentosa
never bothered the bitaeniatum. If the filamentosa
were in a tank by themselves, they were too shy to see
and get any food to them. The water was very soft and
had a pH in the 5.4 range. When I moved to a new
house, I found that all fifty of the bitaeniatum (I
counted) were females. I also kept a 45 gallon tank
with Aphanius mento with Nannacara anomala. The
Aphanius were too much for the Nannacaras and I had to
remove them (the Nannacaras) for their safety.
