List problems

Delurking again 'cause Wright hit on a major factor negatively affecting
this list when he said "Exactly why the list has become somewhat useless to
me. The content signal-to-noise ratio has deteriorated, and that garbage
formatting is most unfriendly to many participants, particularly all digest
subscribers."

He was referring to the MIME/HTML formatting some insist on using that has
so completely munged up Killie Talk for those of us getting it in the Digest
format. I suspect that those that don't get the digest never even take it
into consideration, at least until they go to the archives to try and locate
something they deleted - what a mess this must make the archives and how
much wasted space it must account for.

I'll take it a step further and say that some here are so inconsiderate that
they include every note in the thread in their replies. A good example of
this was in KillieTalk Digest V3 #1510 which contained twelve notes, one of
which amounted to over 60% of the total volume of the digest. Methinks the
reason for this disparity is because someone included not only reference to
what he was responding to, but the complete text of EVERY note in that
thread (including those with the dreaded HTML formatting).

As a killie keeper for over 40 years (was an AKA member for 16 years until
the great AKA member exodus in the 80's when many of us felt the AKA left us
and I was also getting guff from a couple of BOD members for writing lots of
articles for aquarium society journals rather than submitting them for AKA
publications) I subscribe to this list to keep up with killifish info.
Lately that's become much tougher to do, not due to fun or off topic posts,
but because of the junk munging up the posts.

Thanks to those who've provided information of use to many here, and special
thanks to those who've been considerate enough to provide it in a format
that doesn't contribute to the list's clutter. My apologies for the length
of this note, hopefully it will get a couple folks attention and accomplish
what it was intended for. If anyone replies to it, could I ask that you only
reference the pertinent parts rather than just include the whole lengthy
thing?

Fair winds and following seas,
