RE:What is this kille

David,

I had the Akure once a couple of years ago. That particular population has
two quite different morphs that appear to have a complex genetic basis
(apart from any other possible contributing factors) but I didn't really
looked much into it.
Anyway, there are several references about the "blue" and the "yellow"
morphs in the literature. Just to name one example, see Wildkamp's volume
III, under *F. gardneri migerianus*.
Barring any other unforeseen problem like a real hybrid cross, they should
be the same fish and continue to breed true. The blue form, the one depicted
on the picture (apparently) has a blue/violet shine that is really beautiful
under sunshine. Quite a stunner.
Regards,
Rui

I have set up a pair to see if they will breed and
what the fry will look like. Monty figures they will
give normal Akure, which would be just my luck. If
they do that I could never really trust them to stay
true. Then they could very likely really anger
someone who got them.If they breed true then I have a
different problem.
Akure Aquarium Strain has to be the starting point, so
there is no implication that these guys came from the
wild. I think something like what is done with
commercial imports might then follow. Perhaps Akure
Aquarium Strain Variant 01/1.
Or perhaps Akure Aquarium BoyJustWhatWeNeedIs
AnotherColorofGardneri Strain
Frankly - I really hope they breed true or true enough
to keep working with them.
