A blue plus a red/yellow bulb, gives a great combo for plants. Perhaps they
didn't like the strange color but they grow plants well. 
They are pricey but when added with a cheap Chroma 50 or the like, it's not
a bad price overall.
I use them on some smaller tanks with great success by themselves.
