David,

Having been feeding my fresh and salt water tropicals 3 times a week for the 
past 25+ years with no adverse effects. In fact had a SW fish live for 17 
years on a 3 times a week feeding scheduled.

However, believe anything less then that might be harmful to the fish in the 
long run. A week without feeding, as when you are on vacation, has never been 
a problem in the past.
