Yes, I have also eaten many of them. We used to culture them but we have
stopped for many years now. I experimented with feeding them only vegetable
material (including lots of duckweed, which is difficult ot find when you
need lots of them) and that makes their meat really palatable. Those
gouramies fed on pelletized food containing lots of fishmeal tend to have a
specific taste.

If goldfish works, then goldfish would be the way to go as the ones in the
market are dwarves compared to the wild type. Koi carp would also grow too
big.
