Bacterial cultures

I'm amazed at how many of these companies sell this stuff and claim this

or that about the bacterial cultures. True: endospores can live years
and other bacteria can handle harsh enviorments for extended periods of
time but most of these bacteria that are "in" these cultures don't cycle

the systems( ref: Dr. Tim Hoveac) in the frist place as these companies
claim. Old dirty tank water from a well established tank works the best.

The plants themselves....... from a healthy tank work very well BTW for
cycling. Just borrow a gallon of old water from a hobbyist, LFS, local
aqurium society, or another tank etc and save your money<g>. It will be
far fresher than anything out of a jar.
