David Ozenne described a mini plant aquarium in a bottle. This reminds
me of Paul Krombholz's plant jars. The method is similar. You add some
soil to a jar, put in some plant that you wish to keep. Add some daphnia
and snails and leave it in a window. The plant grows very slowly but can
be kept alive for years in this way. The daphnia and snails take care of
most kinds of algae. A piece of dry catfood once in a while is all that
is needed for nutrients. I have used this technique.
