I know you have areas where you have "black" sand, consisting primarily of
volcanic pumice which has gotten some air-play here as of late. It's kind
of up in the air as to how good it is, but it would seem to be, at worst, a
decent neutral substrate. However, typical beach sand or reef sand
typically contains some (if not 100%!) shell and coral material which would
cause problems in the future.
