I've been looking for crushed flint filter sand. I had a 50lb bag I bought at
a pet shop, no one has been able to get it since. I've tried swimming pool
places, they think I'm a nut case. The crushed flint was dark brown, and the
perfect size to grow plants in. It wasn't quite sand and contained rounded
particles that were various dark shades from black to brown, the effect was
like a stream bed in the mountains. Fish and plants both showed up well
against it.
