One easy way to get a canister filter working: 1. When cleaning the canister filter, fill it up with as much water as possible. 2. Connect all the hoses, open the valves. 3. Turn on the filter, then turn the filter upside down, until the water starts to flow. Turn the filter rightside up, and repeat turning the filter now and then to get all the air out of the system.
