Karen is unaware of test kits specifically for Magnesium or Calcium.
Wouldn't a good Hardness kit give you this information? The Hach Hardness
Kit, Total & Calcium, Model HA-4P MG-L, Cat. No. 1457-01 will give you the
Total Hardness and the Calcium Hardness of your tank's water and Magnesium
Hardness is determined by simple subtraction. The kit uses a titration of an
EDTA Titrant with a very clear color change from pink to blue at the
endpoint. It does give results as mg/L of CaCO3 in all instances but this is
something which was debated endlessly quite some time ago.
