Rounup would definitely kill the algae.  And the snails.  Why not put all the
critters and plants into a small tank with simazine (the stuff in most algae
controlling tablets for the aquarium trade.  After a day, rinse them all off
and stick them into the tank.  I don't understand this penchant for using
bleach on plants.  ALgicide works a little slower, but it is a lot easier on
the plants.
