Hello Susan,

The effect of Ca(NO3)2 on your aquarium water will be to *increase* the
hardness, in direct proportion to the amount of Ca(NO3)2 added. 

For each part-per-million of Ca(NO3)2 added, your hardness will increase
by 0.6 ppm.
