other gluconate complexes as plant fertilizers

Through this discussion of ferrous gluconate I decided to try
using potassium gluconate to deal with a suspected potassium
deficiency.

Is it true that potassium can not oxidize beyone K+ ionic state
and therefore gluconate's weak binding (compared to EDTA) is
not an issue as it is with ferrous gluconate? Does this make potassium
gluconate another usable source of potassium?
