algae

Yet another algae problem.... I have what appears to be an algae
"suspension" in my tank. The 125 gal tank is relatively new (a couple
of months) and is only lightly stocked with plants, with 2 VHO bulbs and
no CO2... The algae settles on the gravel, plants, and tank walls
(although a school of Otto's is keeping the plants and glass relatively
clean) and gives the water a greenish tinge. I've already tried large
scale water changes, shorter light exposure, and Magnum 350's micron
filter cartridge to no avail. I'm hesitant to use any artificial
chemicals or invest in a UV sterilizer (I heard that helps). Any
ideas? Thanks.
