What you are debating here are two branches in the approach to growing
aquatic plants:

1) the "natural" approach using fish, fishfood, tap water and a good
pinch of experience.

2) the "cookbook" approach using test kits, chemical fertilizers, CO2
injection, big lights and lots of advice from the Internet.

Both approaches work. Which is easier is really a matter of preference
and pocketbook limits! There are only about a hundred branchings in
approaches to choose from so have fun!! Having fun is what its about I
think.
