Subject: Cutting off bolbitis stems...

A month ago I purchased a big bolbitis. Since then I made a last
attempt to stop the algae by giving it the 1:20 bleach to water bath.
Okay that algae is gone but 90% of the leaves are now
decaying away. There are a few stems that are bright green and growing
well. The question is do I trim the dead leaves off, or the entire stem
down the rhizome?? TIA

PS I did the bleach to see if I could stop the black hair algae.
It worked great on the hrydophila, anubias and swords. It was bleach or
trash. =(


My bolbitis did the same thing.. (the fern equivalent to crypt melt)

I just removed the dead leaves and stems and put it in the corner of the 
tank. Mine is comming back very slowly but is not deformed or exibiting 
other problems at this point. I think it may have been shocked by the high 
light and different water quality of its new tank, its still a mystery what 
*actually* triggered it. Maybe it future you might want to try potasium 
permanganate instead of bleach, I don't know how it will work for algae I 
assume it will have the same effect but possably less trauma to the plant.

So.. I would say just cut off the leaves and stems cause they are useless 
now.
Then all you have to do it talk to it once in a while and it will revover 
faster :)
