CO2 sources

Does anybody have any experience adding organic acids as carbon sources
into an aquarium?
I am thinking about citric acid, ascorbic acid, and/or acetic acids. They
would not necessarily increase hardness,
are cheap and are easily administered.
In water with a carbonate hardness > 6 dH, the pH may not be effected too
badly if only small amounts are added.
As a side effect, more C02 would become available from the carbonate
buffer.
