Remember that however you build the reflector, you need to keep the
construction consistent with any mounting guidelines provided by the
ballast or light manufacturer.

I built a 4-tube hood, using electronic hybrid ballasts and masonite, and
intend to build more.  The ballast manufacturers mounting instructions
required a grounded metal shield running the length of the lamps as a
starting aid. It is convenient for that purpose to use aluminum flashing.
Mylar, although more reflective than the aluminum, doesn't fulfill the
need for grounded shielding.  Applying mylar over the aluminum seems
redundant.
