SAE's behaving badly

I have four SAE's in a 40 gallon tank; I purchased them from Albany
Aquarium, and they import them from Singapore and are supposed to be the
"real" thing.
Anyway, they routinely nip leaves or parts of leaves off of my otherwise
lovely Rotala wallichii. Sometimes they nip Mayaca fluviatilis too. Some
stems are completely naked!
Someone suggested trying cucumber in order to supplement their vegie
needs, and I did, but they didn't like it that much. They love Tetra Tabs
and they get one per day.

Do you think they are just hungry and I am underfeeding them? I don't want
to overfeed so much that they stop their janitorial service on the algae
(which there isn't much of right now; it's a new tank). I like the fish,
but wish there was a way to encourage them to eat something besides the
higher plants! Suggestions appreciated; I'd also like to hear if anyone
else has noticed this type of behavior in these fish.
