RE: Enclosures result in truncated Digest

Digest #689 had such a file and I only received the first 2 items of the
7 listed.
This happens regularly but infrequently - maybe once a fortnight or so.
The only enclosures I ever see on the list are files called "winmail.dat"
so I expect that the cause is someone using Microsoft Internet Explorer
for Windows. Since I figure a lot of people are using that these days,
and the problem is infrequent, it would seem likely that it's a problem
with preferences and setup.
Any suggestions for the cause/cure?<<
I have been trying to find a cure for this because I use MS Outlook as my
e-mail client. In Outlook you can elect to use MS Word as your e-mail
editor and send messages in MIME format(default setting). This allows you
to specify font sizes, styles and other formatting which is duplicated in
the email of the receiving party--if they are also using MS Outlook or MS
mail clients. If, however, the other party is reading e-mail using one of
the myriad other e-mail programs, what they see after the message is a huge
binary attachment. This seems to me to be rather rude, but yet typical of
the way Microsoft does business.
Anyway, what I have done is to disable MS word as my e-mail editor, and set
Outlook not to send messages in the MIME format. This usually results in
fairly well behaved e-mail.
