ethylene from decomposition

     Can anyone supply any comments on the production of ethylene from 
     substrate decomposition? What is its toxicity? Is it stable in 
     oxygenated water? Is it a concern (why or why not)?
     
     Are there any other decomposition byproducts (aside from the common 
     ones) that deserve mention in a substrate FAQ? I'm including the 
     general class of phenolic compounds under humic acids; correct me if 
     this is not accurate.
