I don't consider myself an expert in this area, but my understanding is that
sulphates can become a problem with an anaerobic, organic substrate and low
nitrates. I've set up my systems with a manifold in the substrate to allow me
to oxygenate my substrate if decomposing roots begin to evolve H2S as my tank
reaches a mature level.
