Black Sharks

I recently added a black shark to my plant tank, as I have heard that they will
eat algae.  Can anyone else confirm this.  The hair and beard algae have been
severely trimmed back since I added the shark and 6 otos.  I have not noticed
any plant damage that I can attribute to the fish.
