Plants need both red and blue spectrum. The ladder being the most important. Too much red and no blue spectrum will result in unhealthy plants and alot of unwanted algae. On my 75 gallon I use 2 48" "Triton" (high Red) and 2 48" "Coral Life 50/50" (high blue without the glowing purple tank)
