Phil had a couple questions re a new setup.
1.  Plants producing enough oxygen for his fish..
and an inference that it should happen at night
as well.

Plants reverse themselves at night.  They do not
produce oxygen.

2.  The airstone will drive off the overabundance
of CO2 while adding oxygen to the water.  Hopefully
the gills weren't burned too badly and the fish
will recover.
3.  Place your CO2 system on a timer so that it
does not run when the lights are out.

A guide to follow might be:  CO2 set to come on with
the lights and turn off about two hours before the
lights do.  A visual check on CO2 if you are not able
to test will be a very few small bubbles into the
chamber in 30 seconds.
