It depends on what you're attaching them to, how good the growing 
conditions are, and how well they're attached to start with.  I 
don't bother removing the fishing line unles I'm removing the 
plant completely.  It causes no harm.  A friend actually staples 
the plants to driftwood.  I guess a little extra iron never 
hurts!<g>
