Plants, Lighting & Depth of Tanks

I am sure this has been discussed before, but I appreciate your patience.  

I am about to purchase a 110gal. tank, which is 24" high.  How will this affect
the lighting I should use for my plants in the tank? ..or does it?

Is there a certain depth that changes what you should use for lighting?  Is 
there a scale to use based on the depth of the tank?
