red Aponogeton



For those of you interested in unusual aquatic plants, 
(What? Everyone?) I saw an interesting photo in "Aqua 
Geographia," a German quarterly that's also printed here in 
the US in English.  Volume 9, the latest volume (no issues), has a 
has a photo of red Aponogeton on page eight.  The caption 
says that the plant is "probably new to science."  The color
is similar to the reddish-purple of rhubarb, though pictures 
can be deceiving.  The plant was collected in the Arnhem Land 
region, a remote area near the north coast of Australia in 
the Northern Territory.
