Peat Moss questions.

I have heard that using peat moss in your water changes would be good for
the plants.  I read the FAQ and it only mention using it as part of the
substrate.  I bought a large bag of peat moss and had read about someone
putting it in the water change buckets for a period of time.  What is the
process and how much do you use?  Any helpful tricks?
