Questions about some algae eaters

We have noted damage to some broad leafed plants like E. bleheri and
Armoracia aquatica that we attribute to the small plecos.  They seem
to scrape the surface and damage the epidermis of tender plants.  No
problems with Anubias sp. or Java Ferns.
