Re: [APD] List Activity/ LED lighting

Hi James Back in the day... I remember that well. Many plant sites are out there: Aquatic Gardeners Association http://forum.aquatic-gardeners.org/ Aquatic Plant Central http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/ , The Planted Tank http://www.plantedtank.net/ , The Barr Report http://www.barrreport.com/ , Aquatic Plant Enthusiasts http://www.aquaticplantenthusiasts.com/ . Vaughn Hopkins is Hoppy California on TPT. Many old timers have moved to these forums. I am sure this is why this list has slowed so much. APD doesn't have the color, photo's, etc. Hard to compete. LED lights are becoming big. I am a member of a local NJ Aquatic Plants Club. One of of our members builds these lights and gets some really great growth on his plants. He has a blog where he has documented the build. There are a few projects on his blog, and in multiple parts. Here's one of them. http://aquariums.seaspraydesigns.biz/34-gallon-cube-aquarium/cree-xp-g-r5-diy-led-aquarium-light-34-gallon-cube/ I bou!
ght an LED light that is the same size as a T-8 lamp and runs off of 100-220 V 50-60 Hz. No ballast. Mine is cool white and brighter than the T-8 lamp it replaced. I did get an outbreak of green algae on the substrate and walls after installing this lamp. It is on a 10 gallon tank housing Shell Dwelling Tanganyikan Cichlids. Plants are all Crypts. The one I bought is an Earth LED. You can search here or call them http://earthled.com/flseries.html This list has really slowed down. Weeks can go by without activity. I too remember sometimes three digests per day. The Archives are broken and nothing is being saved any more, so if you see something on these posts, save it before deleting the email. > Hello All!! ?Many years back, I used to be a regular here, but have not been around for a number of years. Back in the day, there used to be something in the order of 1100-1200 posts/month, looking at the mailing list breakdown by month on FINS, it seems these days it has fallen off to a FRACTION of what it used to be??
> ? So, that leaves me with the question, if not here on A.P.D., where is everyone congregating to disseminate info these days??
> ....and the topic that brought me here....I recently picked up a copy of Tropical Fish Hobbyist, and was surprised @ the number of advertisements for L.E.D. lighting. ?So, is this the new NEXT BIG THING?? ?I can see where there would be benefits from a reduced heat/reduced power consumption standpoint, but how does it measure up for use in planted aquaria as far as CRI, etc??
