I think we all know that dogs need their tail if they have to socialise with 
other packs. In the past people removed the tail of working dogs to stop 
them catching on undergrowth or other animals from biting it.

No need for it now of course for domestic dogs. But a docked tail does limit 
other people and dogs from seeing a new dog from a distance and evaluating 
its behaviour.

I wonder what Cesar Millan would have to say on this practise? Probably not 
good. :-))
