Indeed, from what I've read, H peroxide is effective for spot treatment, and
I've also read of people using antibiotics effectively against  BGA, since
its actually a bacteria.

However, what I personally like about the approach Mr. Barr  prescribes is
that it doesn't involve adding anything the tank doesn't need - KNO3 is just
fertilizer for the plants. Furthermore,  I didn't have to go out and buy
anything for it to work (I already had KNO3 on hand). It was pretty easy,
and it worked absolutely, so I was happy! :-)
