Having had BGA myself and using the antibiotic/blackout treatment with great
success (no recurrence BTW-knock on wood), I would agree with you. Adding
chemicals, particularly those which are essentially poisons, is, IMO,
reckless at best. Of course that's not to say if someone has the technical
background and specific equipment to do so, they cannot achieve great
results where many others would end up with a tank of floaters, but I would
always default to the simplest and safest solution. But hey, that's just
me....

Sorry Stuart but imo deeming permanganate an option and not a mild dose of
antibiotic (know to kill this stuff btw) is bad advice.   Permanganate is
not benign and I have seen whole ponds full of koi destroyed with it.
