Same here.
I use two hanging box filters. One has the bio wheel.

Because I have fish in my plant tank, I also do a gentle top side vacuum 
of the gravel, and deeper vacuum where there are no plant roots.

I alternate cleaning the filters so that there is always one aged filter 
to do the work.
