Taken to the opposite extreme for comparison, I doubt I would find being 
bound up in a blanket, submerged under water, and bludgeoned to death to 
be "humane" were it done to me.

Is there something wrong with taking the fish to the local fish store? 
They'll usually take them off your hands even if they won't give any 
money or credit.
