Re: [APD] Subject: Co2 the electronic way

I've seen them work producing extremely fine bubbles. The catch has always been that 1) they aren't any cheaper than compressed gas-- Ithink they actually work out to be more expensive, at least for the long term; 2) sometimes the electronics don't work quite right and you have to learn new swear words to be able to adequately vent your pent up frustration; 3) sometimes the plates foul up and even more expense is necessary to maintain operation; and 4) they aren't exactly an attractive addition to an aquascape -- it's hard to work large matal plates in with the rocks, wood, plants and fish.

On the plus side, 1) they do produce CO2; 2) they are relatively simple to install; and 3) are a gadget (a plus if you loe gadgets)

good luck,
sh

I had one of these units in my 150 gallon planted tank. I could never get
enough CO2 and posted on aquatic plants. The reply was for 150 gallons I
needed 6 of these units. I checked with the local aquarium shop that I
trust and they said I needed 6 units. I now have a CO2 cylinder. How many
gallons is your aquarium? The units work well in putting out CO2, and the
block will last from 2 to 3 months if you turn it off at night. One problem
is the bubbles are fairly big and go straight to the top. Hope that helps.

I'm tempted to buy one of these electronic CO2 unit that uses a carbon block
instead of a gas.

I can get a cheap one on eBay.

Anyone tried these units? Impressions and opinions are welcome.
