Naw, skip the doodad -- not necessary -- the electronic monitor in your case is better justified.  Otoh, it wouldn't be too hard to rig up your own trapped water device -- all that it needs is to contain water separately from the aquariumwater and to share air with the aquarium water. You could make it have an opening through which you put a pH probe.

I think Erik Olson made one of these or something like it a few years ago and wrote about it on TheKrib.com.
