I went to two LFS - the first said they had none, the second said he  
had some used ones in the back.  I paid him $1 for a half dozen of  
the used ones.  I used to have a sheet of lead left over from a  
crafts project (bookends), and I would hammer a piece of it very thin  
and cut strips from that.  But, no more.  I suppose you could go to a  
fishing tackle shop and get some sinkers, pound them flat and cut  
some strips.
