[APD] The low tech "root tab"

Ah, with the temps hitting 115 F here, thinking about a root tab
might not seem relevant.

But........some good old mud, you know, that stuff when water
gets all over garden soil, loam, dirt etc? Take that, place into
ice cube trays. Mud ice cubes.

Take these, place beneath fast growers(because you want the fast
growers to grow faster right?), they will then melt and then add
fresh soil deep into the substrate.

This method can replentish a soil based substrate and smaller
amounts can help other substrate types.

The soil can also be soaked for 2-3 weeks prior in a shallow
tray with water or boiled for 10 minutes to remove/oxidize the
NH4 fraction and prevent green water blooms and other algae
outbreaks should any leak out, be pulled up when
uprooting/moving plants.

Cost: free.

There are many comninations, ferts that can be added to the
mixture prior to the freezing and post boiling/soaking also.

Simply adding KNO3 to the water column takes care of most sword
issues.

Tom Barr
