It appears to me that folks have forgotten that you can actually buy test
kits that are resonably accurate <gasp>.

You can buy a wonderful CO2 test kit from LaMotte (www.lamotte.com) for
about the same price as a discus-based CO2 Test kit AND use it more than
once (unlike the dead discus).

LaMotte also makes very nice narrow range pH test kits and lovely
alkalinity test kits.

With these kits, you can get a better handle on what you have.  If you
live in a area with more than one plant enthusiast, you can share the
better test kits to calibrate your lesser kits and adjust your tables.
