These devices use a 'switched-mode' power supply design.

Lots of laptop computer uses this type of power supply as the units are much 
smaller and much more efficient, so a lot less heat is produced.

Hmm...I wonder how many white LEDs I would need to replace a 4' 80W 
fluorescent tube?
