hmmm. Aren't they just water butts. Skankiness is not necessary and only comes from how they are treated.
 
Of course in the olden days, we didn't have these technological marvels. We just put rain barrels under the downspout and called it plumbing ;-)

I could actually use one of these sanky water butts for doing my water
changes on the smaller tanks.  That would let me "age" the water a little
bit - let it come up to temp and pH adjust etc.  Not a bad idea.   Ok so now
what do I google in American English?
