Have you considered one of the small, point of use, water heaters?  I  
have wondered about trying one myself, just to get away from constantly 
wondering if my water has gotten much hotter or colder than when I 
started adding it.  I haven't seen any other way to heat cold water 
enough, fast enough to be used for something like this.
