Hmm,

I can't quote the tort history but my lessons have been
that, in the USA, false and defamatory are two necessary
conditions for a statement being found libelous. If it can
be demonstrated that you lied about your opinion, and it
was defamatory, then you probably won't fair so well on
judgement. On the other hand, excepting extraordinary
behavior, an individual knows best what her or his opinion
is.

In Britain, I believe the falsity of the defamatory remarks
is assumed by the court until and unless the truth of the
remarks is proved.

But APD has been through this movie before.
